Essential ladies fashion items for summer holidays

StyleWell, who doesn’t dream of the day when they can cast aside the working uniform – whether it’s a smart office suit or a pair of overalls – and take off to sunny warm skies and the wide blue yonder for a week or two?

The problem is, what, exactly, are the essential ladies fashion items to wear on Summer holidays?

The good old standby of a swimsuit or bikini’s a given, of course, but how do you get round the eternal problem of packing too much, or too little?

Well, a brilliant tip is to colour co-ordinate your holiday wear – shades of blue, teamed with white, always looks cool and fresh and summery, for example, but pack two or three colours you know will suit you and the climate.

Soft natural fabrics – cotton, linen or ramie – will combat the heat, so look for loose, flattering clothes that will allow for a circulation of air next to your skin. Forget the lycra shorts and tight T shirt ‘uniform’ that so many women seem to adopt abroad, and pack one or two skirts in soft, flowing shapes that will dress up for evening, or down for daywear. Muslin or cheesecloth shirts are cooler than T shirts, and have the advantage of covering any bits you don’t want on show – and if you do find yourself in ferocious heat, they help form a skin-friendly barrier to protect against the sun.

A pashmina or linen shawl is a great multi purpose item to pack. Use it on the plane as a blanket or pillow, as a sarong during the day, a shawl at night, and it’ll scrunch down ready for sightseeing trips if you find yourself visiting, for example, religious sites, when you might need a quick cover-up for decency’s sake.

Don’t forget shoes – a pair of nude heels for evening, flat, comfy shoes for walking or sightseeing, and a pair of pool slides or flip flops for that well-deserved time off by the pool. Then all you have to worry about is choosing your perfect destination!
